Dr. O’Brien completed his dental education in June of 1981. He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry with Highest Honors. He was the recipient of nine awards and letters of accommodation including the Robert McNulty Memorial Award for Highest Scholastic achievement. During his graduate training, Dr. O’Brien was very active in implant research. He was part of the technical staff under Dr. Paul Grenoble and was responsible for much of the work on Vitreous Carbon Implants. He assisted on several surgical procedures with Dr. Marsh Robinson in the placement of subperiosteal Implants.
After graduation, Dr. O’Brien had several prestigious positions available to him. He accepted an internship from Dr. Warren Hoke, current president of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry Alumni Association. For two years, he studied under this Master of the trade from the 1940’s. In the latter part of 1982, Dr. O’Brien became very interested in scientific work being done in Europe on dental implants. He began looking into several systems and in the middle of March, 1983 selected the Core-Vent system for his practice. At this time the Core-Vent system seemed to be the most prosthetically versatile system and would best fit the needs of his patients. Earlier, this same year, Dr. O’Brien opened his first private practice in an 800 square foot space. Within a very short time, his practice outgrew those facilities and in 1986, he moved the practice to a new location occupying 3000 square feet.
In February of 1986, Dr. O’Brien became the Clinical Director and Implantologist for Core-Vent Corporation. His responsibilities included: worldwide lecturing on both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of Implant Dentistry, quality control evaluation, product development, and overseeing the clinical aspects of patient treatment.
Over the past 25 years, he has trained thousands of doctors in the basic science of implant placement and bone physiology on four major continents. Now he is concentrating his efforts by providing his patients with the very best in complete dental care through the application of applied science. Research and scientific advancements combined with high tech facilities and unsurpassed surgical skills makes Dr. O'Brien and his team one of the most unique private dental practices in the world.
